Bouchillon-Ambrose Cup Match VI – June 21st

The game was singles match play with each match being worth 2 points for the winner and halved matches worth 1 point for each team. Deer Creek competed against Marshwood while Plantation played Oakridge. Almost 70 players braved the heat and humidity to participate in the matches.

In a total reversal from the May results where Marshwood and Oakridge were the winning Clubhouses, Deer Creek and Plantation were this month’s winners with decisive victories over their opponents. Not having won since January, Deer Creek got back into its winning ways by defeating Marshwood 18.25 to 10, keeping Marshwood from repeating its May victory. And Plantation also got back its winning ways ending Oakridge’s 3 month winning streak with a 22 to 14.25 victory.

Given the format, no skins were played this week nor could a DFL award be given to any team or player for last place. And while I would like to report that everyone was at the scoreboard in less than 4 hours, not so this week. We had several foursomes with rounds over 4 hours with a pace-of-play DFL going to the foursome of Peter Quinn, Rusty Billingsly, Mike McGogh, and Rick Saunders who showed up considerably later than the others, “enabling” the rest of the players to enjoy an additional beverage (or two?)!

So, after 6 matches this year, Plantation has “streaked” into the lead with 4 points followed by Oakridge and Marshwood in 2nd place with 3 points. And while Deer Creek is still in the rear with 2 points, they have closed the gap and look like they have started their 2nd half push.

Dining outdoors at Deer Creek, all enjoyed the brats and burgers along with the ice-cold beverages at the 19th hole. And once again shout-outs to all our LMGA folks who make this happen week-in and week-out: President Mike Barber for making the food arrangements; Tom Seipel, Larry Brown and Tom Collins for handling our weekly beverages; and John Bellucci, Steve Skipper, and Mike Munro for continuing to keep us organized despite many last-minute changes.

Congratulations to the Deer Creek and Plantation teams on their victories. Don’t forget to sign up now for our next Thirsty Thursday play and it’s never too early to sign up for our next BA Cup outing on July 19th. And as an added incentive for folks to brave the summer heat, we will be adding a cookout on the first Thursday of July/August/September to supplement the usual BA cookouts on the third Thursdays.  And if this isn't enough, the hole-in-one pool is now over $750 and way overdue for someone to win so get out there and give it a try!
