Bouchillon-Ambrose Cup Tournament Match – October 16th and 17th

The new scoring system for the B-A Cup Championship was designed for all teams to have a chance to win and it certainly did.  On Wednesday, the play was modified alternate shot pitting Oakridge against Deer Creek on a very soggy Oakridge course.  Marshwood matched up against Plantation.  Over 90 golfers teed it up for the shotgun start at 9:00.  Ten points were available in each match plus the overflow which in 2019 proved to be the difference in the championship.

Deer Creek pulled off the upset with a 7 to 4.25 point victory.  1.25 points of the Oakridge total was their overflow players who all produced their .25 point.  In the other match, Marshwood beat Plantation by a score of 6.54 to 3.40.  Yes, in the new scoring for the B-A cup, fractions do matter!  Overall scoring after Day 2 has Oakridge still in first place with 17.45 points, Marshwood, closing the gap, at 16.94, Deer Creek had 15.1 points and Plantation, still DFL, with 10.56.

Day three, at Deer Creek and weather was absolutely beautiful!  Over 100 golfers gathered for the 9:00 shotgun start and individual match play. Twenty points were available in each match and men came out to play!  Plantation and Deer Creek played while Oakridge tried to keep its lead over Marshwood with a head to head matchup.

In Match One, the first surprise of the day was delivered.  Plantation, DFL,  delivered a strong upset of Deer Creek.  Final score, 12.57 points to 7.7, John Evans, the lone overflow player of the day, delivered his .25 points with an outstanding Stableford score of 44.  And in Match Two, Marshwood pulled out the victory over Oakridge by a score of 11.3 to 8.7.  This one came down to the final matches with the players waiting for the last groups to arrive back at the scoreboard.  The question on the table was “Did Marshwood garner enough points to overtake Oakridge?”  And the answer was Yes!  Marshwood took back the B-A Cup for the third time in four years.

Final standings for the Bouchillon-Ambrose Cup were:  Marshwood 28.21, Oakridge 26.15, Plantation 23.17, and defending champion Deer Creek 22.8.  What a great finish to a fantastic season.

As usual for a B-A match, food and beverages awaited everyone at the 19th hole.  This week it was Chicken and barbeque ribs.  The food was delicious and, as usual, beverages were plentiful.  Thank you, Deer Creek staff, for the great 19th hole.  And thank you LMGA folks who make this happen week-in and week-out:  President Bob Hainly and Steve Bunn for making the food arrangements; Tom Seipel and Larry Brown for handling our weekly beverages; and John Bellucci, Steve Skipper, and Mike Munro for continuing to keep us organized despite the many last-minute changes.

Players, don’t forget to sign up for the LMGA Championship being held November 13 and 14.  And please, sign up for the LMGA Dinner and Annual meeting on November 14th.  It is a separate sign up for the dinner!
