Hilton Head Interclub League Play Results

The Hilton Head League played the final match of the year at our Deer Creek course Wednesday March 15 under some of the worst conditions of the season.  It was sunny, but the temps were in the 30s and the wind was blowing 10-20 MPH at the 10 AM shotgun start.  Things got slightly better through the course of the day but it was not a fun day for golf.  Tad and Ty led the way as excellent hosts and, in spite of the weather, our guests had a great time and marveled at both the quality and condition of our course.  Mandi and the DC staff provided a lunch that was enjoyed by all.  A very good showing by our club staff and there were a number of inquiries regarding membership.  We will see.

As for the golf, Moss Creek dominated second place (at the time) Palmetto Hall 53-37 and won the league title going away while Palmetto Hall plummeted to 6th place.  We finished in a tie for 4th but if you examine the points totals below, you will notice only a 6 point differential between second and sixth.  That means after 900 holes of competition by each team, 6 holes separated 5 teams - amazingly close.  By the way, this is Moss Creek's 4th consecutive title and they received the expected amount of flack from the rest of the league.  The theory is that the Moss Creek course is severely underrated (125 slope, second lowest in the league), so the scores the members post do not reflect their actual ability.  i.e. They are posting higher scores on a supposedly easier course.  They're not sandbagging per se, but the result is the same.  All the HH courses are due for a re-rate this summer after the hurricane, so we can hope that things change for next year.

In any case, we are committed to play again next year and looking forward to the competition and camaraderie (and breakfasts).  I am very happy to announce that Gary Poleynard has agreed to be co-captain next year with the plan to be captain for the following season while looking for a co-captain to work with him.  Talk to Gary if you think you're interested

We are currently setting up league play dates for next season.  The goal is get all 11 matches in between December 1 and March 1 while taking the end of December and first part of January off for the holidays.  As the dates firm up, Gary and I will get out a schedule and ask you for the dates you would like to play just like this year.  Stay tuned.

Home and Away Matches

These matches are less structured than the Hilton Head league in that the number of players in each match will vary depending on player and tee time availability.  The format will be simliar with 2 man teams of like handicap playing a better ball match against a 2 man team from the other club.
