The LMGA held its end-of-year celebration at the Plantation Ballroom on Thursday evening November 1st. The evening started with passed hors d'oeuvres and proceeded with a plated dinner. All this was accompanied by an open-bar throughout the night.
After dinner, out-going LMGA President Mike Barber called the LMGA meeting to order and announced that this is the fifth anniversary of LMGA. The organization has grown from a handful of believers to about 475 members. Mike presented the nominating committee’s report along with the proposed new officers for 2019. The slate was approved by unanimous acclamation. The officers for 2019 are: Bob Hainly – President; Frank Schepis – Vice President; John Brennan – Secretary; and John Palermo (along with Larry Brown) – Treasurer.
The highlight of the evening was our Keynote Speaker – Tim Sampson – who regaled us with anecdotes of his career with the CIA (now was that the Central Intelligence Agency or the Culinary Institute of America???). Given the nature of his talk, we can’t reveal any of the specifics or else we would be in violation of numerous Federal Statutes (what happens at LMGA stays in LMGA?) but we can say that Tim entertained us as only Tim can (now which President liked to get his Daily Brief while sitting in the bathtub???). Needless to say, it was a very entertaining talk.
So, a great time was had by all. A big shout-out to Steve Bunn for making all the arrangements for the dinner to include the great food selections and all the logistics/planning that goes into an event of this magnitude. Many thanks, Steve, for a job well done!!! Our thanks also go out to Mike for all that he has done for the LMGA over the past year (and for previous years). The LMGA wouldn’t be where it is today without Mike’s involvement.
Finally, many thanks go to the 2019 Officers mentioned above and the 2019 B-A Cup Captains who will be instrumental in taking the LMGA to new heights. New B-A Cup captains for the upcoming year will be Bill Brunton, replacing Bob Hainly as Marshwood captain, and Pete Quinn, replacing Frank Schepis as Deer Creek captain. Captains Jeff DeHaven (Oakridge) and Bob Schmidt (Plantation) will remain in place.
