A big turn-out of 70-ish golfers descended upon Oakridge to try their hand with the Red/White/Yellow Best Ball game where each four-man team was required to take 3 net balls on red flag holes, 2 on white flag holes, and 1 on yellow flag holes. Teams were A-B-C-D foursomes split into two Flights.
In Flight 1, the team of Greg Snyder, Joel Klein, John Evans, and Bob Kaplan eked out a 2-stroke first-place victory with a score of -20. But Flight 2 was a completely different story where the team of Tony Lombard, Bob Murphy (more on him later), Tim Elliott, and David Evans ran away with first place with a -26 score, 7 strokes better than their nearest competitor. In addition to being on the runaway Flight 2 first place team, Bob Murphy also nailed 3 of the 9 Skins with net-Eagles, leaving the other 6 Skins for 6 other players. Way to go Bob!!!
The competition was also very heated for DFL. Three teams in Flight 2 posted early scores of -7 to -9 and were worried about having to share DFL. But at the last minute, the Flight 1 team of Machi Cossio, Phil VanEss, Rick Cricenti, and Dick Higgins managed to snatch the DFL “Prize”’ with a score of-3 (you did play more than 1 or 2 holes, didn’t you guys?). So, congratulations are in order for our clear DFL “winner”. And pace of play was good with all teams finishing their rounds around the 4-hour mark.
So, congratulations to all our winners. Next Thursday we will have a Stableford match at Plantation with four-man teams with all A’s or all B’s or all C’s or all D’s on each team, flighted by handicap. Sign up soonest so that you don’t get left out.
