The game this week was a Flighted 4-person team Stableford competition. There was one flight of lower handicap teams and one flight with higher handicap teams.
In Flight 1, the team of Bill Wolod, Dan Smith, John Higgins, and Tom Zapatka won with a score of 143. In Flight 2, the team of Jim Golz, Hal Schmidt, Ken Ura, and Bob Kaplan also won with a score of 143. Given that no team broke through the “par” magic barrier of 144, looks like all teams and players were affected by the tough and deep Oakridge Rough. Very challenging hitting out of the rough today.
There were several teams with low scores in the 120s so no single team to “shout-out” to for a clear DFL “win” (sorry Tony Lombard, looks like you won’t make the TWATL this week). But there was a clear winner in Skins. Dick Higgins took home 2 Skins while 5 other players took home 1 each. And even the Skins demonstrated the difficulties with the course. There were very few Eagles while some holes had nothing better than net pars. But pace-of-play was great with all teams in around 4 hours. A “shout-out” for all our 50ish players!
Our First-Thursday cook-out of Brats and Dogs was the ideal supplement to our normal beverages. Many thanks to our fearless leader Mike Barber for setting it up and a “shout-out” to the Oakridge food and beverage staff for all their hard work in pulling it off, to include a number of tables and chairs strategically placed to take advantage of the shade.
And a heads-up, on Thursday August 23 starting at 5:00 PM (coinciding with Cabana Bar Happy-Hour) the first Annual TLC Long Drive Contest will be held at the Marshwood Driving Range. Additional details will follow in an e-mail!
