With his year-long tenure as President of the Landings Men’s Golf Association nearing its end, John Bellucci may or may not have been hoping to capture the group’s annual Championship, or be named as Player of the Year. “I just want to go out and play well,” he said on Day Two of the tournament, when it began to look like he was in contention to win at least one or possibly both titles.
But play well he did. When the scores were totaled after the final round, Bellucci had won his Championship Club/Medal Tees Division and had accumulated enough season points (2,975) to outshoot his rivals and secure the Player trophy. Scott Happ finished in a very close second place with 2,875 points, while Mark Witbeck placed third with 2,625 points.
In the two-day, three-division Championship series, James Headley won first place in the Club Tees Division with Witbeck and Bob Kulp sharing the runner-up position. Bellucci and Happ won first and second place, respectively, in the Club/Medal Division. John Landuyt won the Medal Tees Division with Keith Brown as runner-up.
At the awards dinner following the final round, a new slate of association officers was voted in. The unanimous choice for 2024 LMGA President is Richard Colvin, with Larry Batanian as Vice-President. Ted Bumsted is now Secretary and Mark Rosenbaum takes over as Treasurer.
