Another “Hotly Contested” Round for Georgia Golfers

Play date: June 27 – It was another shirt-wringing day for LMGA on the Terrapin Point course this past week as air temperatures again soared into the upper 90s, but 13 manly foursomes nevertheless turned out at 9:00 a.m. to tee off for a round of Team Stableford. In this game, points are awarded at each hole for cumulative scores based on team members’ net course handicaps.

When the results were tallied, first place In Flight 1 with 139 team points went to Doug Berchtold, Edgar Yu, Larry Batanian and Bret Hardy. The foursome of Brad Battista, Jim Yablecki, John Clark and George Yost earned second place with a total score of 130. In third place with 124 team points were Dave Martin, Ken May, Dave Creasy and John Bokina.

In Flight 2, an overall score of 137 put Gary Hobbs, David Evans, Brian Piening and Dale Johnson in first place. Second place with 130 total points went to Rick Kershaw, Sophus Schanche, Jim McEnerney and Don Snyder. In for third place with 118 team points were Phil Redmond, Buck Buckner, Rufus Freeman and Bob Kaplan.

Skins Pool

Thursday was also a good day to be in the weekly Skins pool, as eight net eagles and five net birdies went uncontested. Tom Brackett and Bob Jackson won two birdies each, while Rich Matos netted a lone birdie. The eagles went to Dave Martin, Dan Malachuk, Mike Towson, Phil Libby, Brad Battista, Don Toth, Larry Batanian and John Garone.
