Big Margin of Victory in 1st Flight, Narrow Margin in 2nd Flight

By Rick Colvin

In the 1st LMGA game of the 2022-2023 season, the team of Randy Choat, Jeff Nibley, Don Snyder, and Sam Story scored 138 points in the Team Stableford competition on the Deer Creek course Dec. 1 to win the 1st Flight by 13 points over the 2nd place team of Keith Brown, Dave Creasy, David Resler, and Steve Thomas.

The winning margin was much smaller in the 2nd Flight. The team of Larry Batanian, David Evans, Jim Higbee, and John Landuyt scored 134 points, beating the team of Bob Benson, Bryan Morton, Peter Quinn, and Tom Young by only 2 points.

Steven Shulman and his wife, Karen Antuzzi, closed on their home in The Landings in April and came here to live tin November. They plan to spend winters here and summers in New York. Steven is a practicing attorney and Karen is in the advertising business. Steven learned to play golf in college at the University of Utah back when, he said, “woods were still made of wood.” He enjoys golfing with friends who “take the game seriously, but can still laugh at themselves.”

Tom and Anita Young moved to The Landings from Singapore in late October. Tom is originally from West Virginia and Anita grew up in south Florida. Tom worked for Nike for the past 25 years and was posted about half of that time in Oregon and the other half in Asia. Tom began playing golf in Thailand, at first on his own, and then with the benefit of lessons. “What I most enjoy about the game is the friendships that are made as well as the continuous challenge to get better,” he said.

Bill and Pam McCloskey moved to The Landings in 2016 from Doylestown, Pa., a suburb of Philadelphia. Bill said he joined the LMGA because he wanted to continue playing in the Interclub matches that Landings golfers play each winter against teams on Hilton Head and in the Bluffton, S.C. area. Bill worked for Norfolk Southern Railway in the marketing department. His most memorable round of golf was at the Old Course at St. Andrews. “It was like playing 18 holes in a museum,” he said.

Michael and Mary Fay Kattman bought a house in The Landings in November, 2019. Michael retired from his position as an internal auditor for a credit card company and moved here for the winter. Mary Fay, who is the CEO for a career transition and leadership training company, is still working but gets to Savannah as often as she can. The Kattmans will spend their summers in the Boston area. Michael said his greatest golf memory is of living in London and having the opportunity to play many courses in Ireland and Scotland, including St. Andrews twice.
