Bouchillon-Ambrose Cup Match – July 30th, 2020

After a 3-week hiatus, LMGA play resumed with the 7th B-A Cup match of the year. Play continued using the Club and LMGA Corona Virus social distancing rules. Individual Foursome tee times, and special scorecard and beverage handling procedures at the 19th hole were again the order of the day. And food service continued using special precautions to ensure social distancing rules remained enforced.

The game was two-man teams playing match play with a Modified Alternate Shot format. First place Deer Creek competed against 2nd place Palmetto while 3rd place Oakridge went against DLF team Marshwood. Both contests were awfully close where a single match could have reversed the winners and losers. In the Deer Creek-Palmetto match, Palmetto got an upset victory by a score of 5.5 to 4. In the Oakridge-Marshwood match, Oakridge carried the day, winning by a score of 6.75 to 5.25. There were no overflow players who exceeded their Stableford goal of 32 to tip the scales for any of the teams.

A great big welcome goes to our first-time player Brian Mitchell. He played for the Oakridge team and won his match. Great start to your LMGA “career”, Brian. And the hole-in-one pool started up again. Rumor has it that we had a hole-in-one during play, but the player hadn’t signed up yet for the new pool. So, if you still need to sign up, please see Mike Munro. Remember, YOU HAVE TO BE IN IT TO WIN IT!

The 19th hole was especially sweet due to the continuation of food to supplement our weekly beverages. Hamburgers and brats were the order of the day with the Palmetto staff doing a commendable job of taking care of us while ensuring that all Corona Virus protocols were followed. A great big “thank you” to the Staff and a SHOUT OUT for a job well done.

As always, a special thanks goes to the LMGA folks who made this event a huge success while ensuring everyone stayed safe and followed all the Corona Virus guidelines. Thank you, President Frank Schepis, for overall organization and serving as our bartender; Tom Seipel and Steve Voss for handling our beverages; and John Bellucci, Steve Skipper, and Mike Munro for continuing to keep us organized despite many last-minute changes.

So, the 2020 B-A Cup season continues. Deer Creek remained in first place with 5 points, but Palmetto closed the gap with its victory, now just 0.5 points behind Deer Creek. And Oakridge strengthened its hold on 3rd place with 3.0 points while Marshwood remained mired in DFL, still with only 1.5 points. But that could all change on August 13th when the 1st and 4th place teams play each other while the 2nd and 3rd place teams compete once again at Palmetto. The game will be individual net-score match play. Sign up now so that you don’t get left out.

And while you are signing up, don’t forget about signing up for next week’s play at Terrapin Point. The game will be flighted four-man team-play using the total score for all players in the Stableford format. And given the new normal, social distancing will be the word and the practice of the day, both on the first 18 holes and at the 19th hole.
