Bouchillon-Ambrose Cup Match – June 18th, 2020

This was the 6th B-A Cup match of the year. Play continued using the Club and LMGA Corona Virus social distancing rules. Individual Foursome tee times, and special scorecard and beverage handling procedures at the 19th hole were again the order of the day. But food service resumed using special precautions to ensure social distancing rules remained enforced.

The game was 4-Ball (2-Man Best Ball) match play where 2 Man teams selected one net best ball score for each hole. Overflow folks played individual Stableford where a score of 31 or greater earned their team .25 points. First place Deer Creek competed against DFL Marshwood while 2nd place Plantation went against 3rd place Oakridge.

To summarize the day’s results, the rich got richer and the poor got poorer. In the Deer Creek-Marshwood match, Deer Creek retained first place and Marshwood remained DFL as Deer Creek prevailed by a score of 7.5 to 5.25. In the Plantation-Oakridge match, Plantation and Oakridge remained in 2nd and 3rd place respectively as Plantation won the match by a score of 7.5 to 6.0. It should be noted that 5 out of 7 overflow players exceeded their Stableford goal of 31 with 3 folks shooting a par score of 36, but these added points for Oakridge and Marshwood weren’t enough to affect the outcome of the matches.

The 19th hole was especially sweet due to the return of food to supplement our weekly beverages. Hamburgers and brats were the order of the day with the Plantation staff doing a commendable job of taking care of us while ensuring that all Corona Virus protocols were followed. A great big thank you to the Staff and a SHOUT OUT for a job well done.

Also, a SHOUT OUT goes to all our players. Despite the rain, every player who signed up to play showed up. A true testament to the popularity of our Thursday play and the dedication of our members to the game of golf. And we want to extend a welcome back to Ray Beaudreault who is back playing with LMGA; welcome back, Ray!

As always, a special thanks goes to the LMGA folks who made this event a huge success while ensuring everyone stayed safe and followed all the Corona Virus guidelines. Thank you President Frank Schepis for overall organization and serving as our bartender; Tom Seipel and Larry Brown for handling our beverages; and John Bellucci, Steve Skipper, and Mike Munro for continuing to keep us organized despite many last-minute changes.

So, the 2020 B-A Cup season continues. With its victory, Deer Creek extended its first-place score to 5.0 points while Plantation remained in 2nd place with 3.5 points. Oakridge remained in 3rd place with 2.0 points while Marshwood maintained its DFL status with 1.5 points. But that could all change on Jul 30th when the 1st and 2nd place teams play each other while the 3rd and DFL teams compete at Palmetto. The game will be two-man teams playing a Modified Alternate Shot match. Sign up now so that you don’t get left out.

And while you are signing up, don’t forget about signing up for next week’s play at Deer Creek. The game will be individual play using the Stableford format. Players will compete against other players with similar indexes where there will be 1 winner per each foursome. And given the new normal, social distancing will be the word and the practice of the day, both on the first 18 holes and at the 19th hole.
