Bouchillon-Ambrose Cup Match – June 20th

This was the 6th match of the 2019 Bouchillon-Ambrose season. The game this month was 2-Man teams in net Match Play using a Modified Alternate Shot format. Each player hit a drive, one player's drive was selected, and the player's partner hit the second shot. Players alternated shots until the ball was holed out. Each player had to use at least 5 drives.

In the Plantation – Deer Creek match, Plantation was the clear winner with a 5 to 2 ½ point victory despite Deer Creek’s 2 overflow players earning ½ point for shooting over 32 in their Stableford round. However, the Oakridge - Marshwood match was tied at 3-all in the Alternate Shot rounds but Oakridge picked up ½ point versus Marshwood’s ¼ point in the overflow individual Stableford play for a 3 ½ - 3 ¼ victory. Way to go Gary Hobbs and Ken Carlough in pushing Oakridge over the top!

Given that this was a B-A match, there was no Skins competition. And pace-of-play was excellent with everyone except one foursome into the Clubhouse well under 4 hours. Our missing foursome of Ande Bodary, Dan Degood, Richard Colvin, and Mike Barber was so far behind the other foursomes that they were declared MIA on the scoreboard. Perhaps they got so caught up in their match that they decided to play an extra 9? Fortunately, they were part of the Plantation – Deer Creek match where their scores would not affect the outcome.

So, the 2019 B-A monthly play has completed 6 rounds of golf with Oakridge still undefeated with 6 points. Although they lost today to Oakridge, Marshwood retained second place in the standings with 3 points. Plantation, with its win today, moved out of a tie for DFL into third place with 2 points. And maintaining its hold on DFL, Deer Creek still has only 1 point which it earned in the very first round of 2019 back in January. Oakridge Captain Jeff DeHaven’s “black-hat” team continues to intimidate all the other clubhouses. But with Jeff’s departure, only time will tell if his replacement Dave Resler can continue with the undefeated streak for the remainder of 2019.

As usual for a B-A match, food and beverages awaited everyone at the 19th hole. This week it was cold cuts and meatball subs served up with everyone’s favorite beverages. Thank you, Oakridge staff, for another great 19th hole. And thank you LMGA folks who make this happen week-in and week-out: President Bob Hainly and Steve Bunn for making the food arrangements; Tom Seipel and Larry Brown for handling our weekly beverages; and John Bellucci, Steve Skipper, and Mike Munro for continuing to keep us organized despite many last-minute changes.

Next month on Jul 18th the B-A competition moves to Palmetto. Plantation will try to hand undefeated Oakridge its first loss of the year while Deer Creek will try to move out of sole-DFL with a victory over Marshwood. The format will be 18 holes of 4-Ball match play where 2-Man teams use their best net ball. And as a reminder, Thirsty Thursday play next week is at Deer Creek where we will have 4 man teams required to take 3 net balls on greens with a red (front) flag, 2 net balls with white (middle) flags, and 1 net ball with yellow (back) flags. Sign up now for both events to beat the rush!
