This was the 5th B-A Cup match of the year. Play continued using the Club and LMGA Corona Virus social distancing rules. Individual Foursome tee times, and special scorecard and beverage handling procedures at the 19th hole were again the order of the day. The game was individual net-score match play, one against one. Overflow folks played individual Stableford where a score of 31 or greater earned their team .25 points.
First place Deer Creek competed against 2nd Place Plantation while 3rd Place Marshwood matched-up against DFL Oakridge. In the former match-up, Deer Creek prevailed by a score of 11.5 to 10 where Deer Creek earned .5 points from its 3 overflow players. In the latter match, Oakridge overcame Marshwood 12.5 to 11.5 where Marshwood earned 1.0 points from its overflow players. It should be noted that 6 out of 8 overflow players exceeded the new Stableford goal of 31 with Peter Hering leading the pack of overflow players with a score of 38.
While there was no lunch served due to Corona Virus restrictions, the usual beverages were available. All appeared to have a great time while practicing their best social distancing behavior. And we wanted to give a special SHOUT OUT for our new players of the week: Don McVay, Anthony Berens & Ed Zimmer. Hope y’all had a great time and that you will become Regulars at our Thirsty Thursday events.
A special thanks goes to the LMGA folks who made this event a huge success while ensuring everyone stayed safe and followed all the Corona Virus guidelines. Thank you President Frank Schepis for overall organization; Tom Seipel and Larry Brown for handling our beverages; Bob Hainly for his scorekeeping; and John Bellucci, Steve Skipper, and Mike Munro for continuing to keep us organized despite many last-minute changes.
So, the 2020 B-A Cup season continues. With its victory, Deer Creek extended its first-place score to 4.0 points while Plantation remained in 2nd place with 2.5 points. Oakridge with 2.0 points moved up to 3rd place while Marshwood slipped into DFL with 1.5 points. But that could all change on Jun 18th when the 1st place team plays the DFL team and the 2nd place team plays the 3rd place team at Magnolia. The game will be 2-Man Best Ball match play where 2 Man teams select one net best ball score for each hole. Beverages will be served but food will not due to Corona Virus social distancing restrictions. Sign up now so that you don’t get left out.
And while you are signing up, don’t forget about signing up for next week’s play at Magnolia. The game will be the favorite Pick-6 Scramble where teams will be flighted by A-B or C-D players. Each team must select six tees from three different teeing grounds: A-B teams choose from Tournament, Club, and Course-Named tees; and C-D teams select from Club, Medal, and Skidaway tees. And given the new normal, social distancing will be the word and the practice of the day, both on the first 18 holes and at the 19th hole.
