Bouchillon-Ambrose Cup Match – September 24th, 2020

LMGA Thursday play continued with the 9th 2020 B-A Cup monthly match which determined the seedings for the 3-day B-A Cup tournament in October. First place Deer Creek played 3rd place Oakridge while 2nd place Palmetto played 4th place Marshwood. The game was 4-Ball match play where 2-man teams selected one net best ball on every hole.

It should be noted that this match was also the final rounds of golf that were played on the Deer Creek course before it closed for final prep for the Korn Ferry Savannah Golf Championship. Our play continued to use the Club and LMGA Corona Virus social distancing rules. Individual Foursome tee times, and special beverage and food handling procedures at the 19th hole were again the order of the day.

The bottom line is that the results of both matches did not affect the standings as all four teams retained their previous positions. First place Deer Creek lost to 3rd place Oakridge by a score of 8 to 6.25 while 2nd place Palmetto eked out a 5.75 to 5 victory over 4th place Marshwood. And although all 4 overflow players earned ¼ point for reaching/exceeding their Stableford goal of 32, none of them were able to affect any of the team results. So, Deer Creek will enter the B-A Cup tournament with 6 points, Palmetto with 5.5 points, Oakridge with 5 points, and Marshwood with 1.5 points. More on the tournament below.

The 19th hole was most appreciated by all the players as lunch was served to supplement our usual weekly beverages. Pulled pork and pulled chicken were the order of the day. The Deer Creek staff took great care of us while immersed in all the final prep for the coming Korn Ferry golf tournament. And all the while, ensuring that all the Covid-19 protocols continued to be followed. A great big “thank you” to the Staff and a big SHOUT OUT for a job well done.

As always, a special thanks goes to the LMGA folks who made this event a huge success while ensuring everyone stayed safe and followed all the Corona Virus guidelines. Thank you, President Frank Schepis, for overall organization; Tom Seipel and Steve Voss for handling our beverages; Don Snyder for serving as our bartender; and John Bellucci, Steve Skipper, and Mike Munro for continuing to keep us organized despite many last-minute changes. Also, kudos to injured reserve Bill Tomassini for lending a hand where additional help was needed.

Moving forward to this year’s B-A Cup Tournament, a special thank you goes to Kelly Bouchillon and Eddie Ambrose for their continued sponsorship of the B-A Cup. The final tournament this year will be played over three days (Oct 8, 14, and 15). Each team will play each other team. Tee times start at 8AM. Beverages & lunch will follow play all 3 days. Each team will start with the points earned during the 9-month season. Teams can win up to 10 points on Day 1 and Day 2, and up to 20 points on Day 3. This should ensure that every team is in it on Day 3. Overflow players can earn ¼ point for their team by scoring at least 32 Stableford points.

Participants may play any or all the 3 days but must register for each day separately through the web site. Additional details are being provided via e-mail and a separate web posting. So, sign up now and come out for the 2020 Bouchillon - Ambrose Cup Championship. And as a reminder, there will be no Thirsty Thursday play next week due to the Savannah Golf Tournament. Hope to see y’all on Thursday Oct 8th for the first day of our B-A Cup tournament.
