The LMGA is pleased to announce the introduction of a new fun and exciting offering for 2025: The Crouch Cup! This is a new 9-hole, individual match play league that will start on March 15th, 2025 with flights determined by handicap. While there will be opportunities to play matches within your flight during some regular LMGA play days (Thursdays), there is no requirement to do so--you can schedule your matches for any time you and your fellow competitors are available.
Each match is worth 20 points (2 points per hole with a bonus 2 points for winning the match), and the flight winners (and potential wildcards pending the number of flights and participants) will be seeded in a bracket to compete for the KC CUP FINAL SHOOTOUT in the Fall.
The entry fee for this season-long event is $30, and you must be an LMGA member to participate.
Anecdotally, this is similar to the Olde Buddy Match League, except that is a Singles, 9 Hole match…… and instead of a “Double Elimination” Tournament format, this league is based on total points, so you always have a chance to run the tables if you start out poorly!
You can register for the Crouch Cup at the Club Website, Under Golf, Golf Associations, and click on LMGA Events and register for the Crouch Cup Now, through March 14, 2025!
The Crouch Cup is sponsored in part by Kevin Crouch, J.D., Partner at Meyer and Sayers. Meyer & Sayers is one of the largest and preeminent estate planning firms in the Southeast, representing a broad range of clients throughout the United States by leveraging their expertise and a network of associated law firms in other states.
Additional Information:
1. Signups will run through March 14th with first matches to begin March.
2. Aim for 6 - 10 players per flight based upon popularity.
3. Once flights are established and published, players can begin
scheduling their matches at their leisure. Score reporting is TBD.
4. Handicaps can only move 25% in either direction during the season (i.e., a 10-handicap
on March 1st would play at somewhere between 7.5-12.5 for the duration of the
season regardless of what his official GHIN handicap is). Starting handicap will be
recorded.
5. While future seasons may also bring in tee selection along with handicaps when
flighting, in the initial season, the player with the highest handicap shall select his
preferred tee box for the match, which must have been a tee he has played at least 50%
of his last 20 rounds per GHIN. His opponent may play either the tees he has played the
majority of the last 20 rounds or can choose to play the same tee as the higher
handicapper.
6. Strokes in the match shall be assigned where they fall on the card (i.e., not played off the
lower handicap).
7. Should any player forfeit/withdraw, their remaining matches will be recorded as 13-0.
8. Should a player attempt unsuccessfully to schedule a match with a player for a 15-day
period (aside from injuries that will still allow sufficient time for all matches to be
completed post-injury), the non-scheduling player will be notified they must schedule the
match within one week or it shall be deemed a forfeit. (The “no ducking” rule.)
9. Once all matches have been played in each flight, the winners of each flight will play
each other in a bracket-style competition for the overall championship. The seeding for
this bracket will be based upon the total points accrued by each player during the regular
season, i.e., the flight winner with the most total points shall play the flight winner with
the least total points in the first round. If the number of flights does not allow for a
balanced bracket (i.e., not 4, 8, or 16 flights, for example), the 2nd place competitors
with the most points will be the wildcards as needed to fill out the bracket (2nd place
player with the most total points will be seeded just after the lowest flight winner and so
on).
