Deer Creek is the Team to Beat Heading into the B-A Cup Championship Rounds

By Rick Colvin

The Deer Creek team extended its lead over the field to three points Sept. 19 in the last regular season Bouchillon-Ambrose Cup matches on the Terrapin Point course by beating the Oakridge team 6 ½ to 2 in 4-ball.

The Marshwood team beat the Palmetto team 5 to 3 ½, coming within ½ point of 2nd place in the yearlong competition.

Deer Creek now leads with 7 ½ points, followed by Palmetto with 4 ½ points. Marshwood is close behind with 4 points and Oakridge trails with 2 points.

Despite Deer Creek's commanding lead, all four teams remain contenders for the Cup; in contrast to the regular season, the Championship rounds are determined match by match across three days.

The four Landings Golf & Athletic Club pros who participated in the B-A Cup, each partnered with an LMGA member, halved their matches.

At the top of the Deer Creek roster, Asst. Pro Lacy Skwarek teamed up with RJ Jackson to tie Oakridge Asst. Pro Cody Carlson, who was paired with Jim Yablecki; Marshwood Asst. Pro Danielle Boumpastore and her partner, Billy Brunton, tied Palmetto Asst. Pro Ryan Albright and Bob Wyont.

The B-A Cup Championship rounds begin Oct. 3 with a 4-ball match on the Palmetto course. The format for the 2nd round of the Championship will be modified alternate shot matches on the Oakridge course. The final B-A Cup round for 2024 is singles matches on the Deer Creek course.
