Eagles Were Flying in Mid-Winter Stableford Match

LMGA’s Individual Stableford game Jan. 12 on the Oakridge course saw some hot competition despite a chilly morning start. At the end there were eight eagles carded for the day, with six winners in each of the four Flights.

Highlights included Greg Maloof carding a rare double eagle on the par 5 hole 15 after a two-foot putt, Milo Moore with a pair of eagles on holes 5 and 14, and Paul Lieberman’s eagle on hole 13 – the result of a 60-degree wedge shot from 84 yards. Paul also birdied the par 3 hole 16, sinking a 40-foot putt from off the green.

Other eagles were earned by Tom Richards on hole 13, Gef Fleming on 2, Charles Moore on 8, Peter Hering on 1, and James Headley on number 7.

Top scorers in each of the four Flights included Randy Choat in Flight 3 with 43 points, and Mike Allen in Flight 4 with 42 points. James Headley won Flight 2 with 38 points, shooting two over par on the front nine after birdieing both par 5s. Larry Batanian won Flight 1 by shooting an 81, also good for 38 points. To what does Larry owe his success? “Making a lot of putts.”
