July 29 Results: Jim Golz Hole in One Highlights Team's 1st Flight Victory

By Rick Colvin

LMGA member Jim Golz faded a 5-hybrid from 147 yards to a far back right pin for a hole in one on Palmetto’s par 3 5th hole, helping put his team atop the 1st Flight in a Team Stableford event July 29.

For Golz, 72, it was his fourth hole in one, all coming since he turned 60.

The day’s format called for an overall winner as well as front nine and back nine winners.

Golz, Anthony Berens, Michael Allen, and Greg Snyder, scored 135 points, six more than the 2nd place team, to take the overall victory. Allen gave his team a big boost with net eagles on holes 2, 12, and 15 and five net birdies.

Winning the front nine in the 1st Flight with 69 points was the team of Sonny Brownlee, Mike Munro, and Paul Warhola; Vic Bell, Steve O’Loughlin, Bob Schmidt, and Bill Wolod won the back nine with 62 points.

Topping the 2nd Flight with 125 points was the team of Mike Barber, Martin Halper, Phil Redmond, and Don Snyder. Front nine honors went to Jeffrey “Hawk” Baker, Dave Creasy, Bob Kaplan, and Randy Hatch with 71 points. Taking the back nine with 63 points was the team of Tom Collins, Joe Krisch, Tom Stephens, and George Yost. Yost contributed birdies on holes 13 and 18.

Allen won three skins, and Bob Gardner, Bob Schmidt, and Bill Tomassini each won one.

Golz took the hole in one pool. Joel Klein will be the new collector for the pool, replacing Mike Munro. Thanks Mike! Remember, you have to be in it to win it!
