Landings Team Falters But Still Leads Interclub League After Fourth Outing

Thanks to a strong performance by low-handicappers Paul Lieberman and Bob Wyont on the Arthur Hill course at Palmetto Dunes Jan. 5, The Landings team remains atop the standings in the 2022-2023 Interclub League after four outings.

Lieberman and Wyont beat their opponents 12-5 in a fourball match and Shawn Dyer and Keith Krueger won 10-8. Rick Colvin and Peter Quinn fell 8-10; Steve Heacox and Randy Hatch tied their match at 9-9; and Bruce Gingold and Ken Ura were defeated 7.5-10.5.

Although the course overall was in good condition, the greens were exceedingly slow, especially compared to the quickness of the greens at The Landings. Several of the teams said their putting suffered as a result.

The Landings currently has 198 points, only 4.5 points ahead of the Palmetto Hall team. The Landings’ lead is precarious, however, because four of the 11 teams have not played all four matches. Under the league’s format, the host team sits out when the competition moves to their home course. Because The Landings team won the 2021-2022 trophy, the last tournament of the season will be here. So, to retain the trophy, The Landings team needs to build up a large lead before then.

The 10-man teams for each match are chosen by Steve Bunn, Interleague Chair, and Rich Matos, Interleague Co-chair, from the 61 LMGA members who signed up to play in the League.
