Marshwood Wins B-A Cup With Narrow Win on Last Day of Round-Robin Tournament

Marshwood Wins B-A Cup

By Rick Colvin

The Marshwood team won the 2024 Bouchillon-Ambrose Cup on Thursday Oct. 31, beating the last place Oakridge team in singles matches on the Magnolia course by just 2 ½ points, which was just enough to edge out Palmetto.

The Deer Creek team, which had led all year long, was beaten 13 ½ points to 7 ¼ points by Palmetto. But that margin of victory wasn’t enough for Palmetto to catch Marshwood.

Captained by Don Snyder, the Marshwood team made a convincing late-season surge in the end-of-season round robin tournament. The team entered the tournament in 3rd place, 4 points behind Deer Creek and only ½ point behind Palmetto. On Oct. 9, in alternate shot competition, Oakridge tied Deer Creek while Palmetto narrowly beat Marshwood. That left Deer Creek still in first with Palmetto in second and Marshwood in 3rd place, four points out of the lead.

A big win Oct. 10 against Deer Creek vaulted Marshwood into the lead, ahead by only .9 points over Palmetto. Marshwood kept the lead by beating Oakridge Oct. 31 while Palmetto held on for 2nd place.

The trophy was to be awarded to Captain Snyder and his team at the Annual Meeting and dinner, Nov. 14.

The Bouchillon-Ambrose Cup is a year-long team competition that is the signature event of the LMGA season. It is underwritten, in part, by Soundview Wealth Advisors partners Kelly Bouchillon and Eddie Ambrose.
