Oakridge Team is the 2020 Bouchillon-Ambrose Cup Champion – October 15th, 2020

LMGA Thirsty Thursday play continued with the final round of the 3-day B-A Cup tournament. Players continued to use the Club and LMGA Corona Virus social distancing rules. Individual Foursome tee times, and special beverage and food handling procedures at the 19th hole were again the order of the day.

As a reminder, the tournament this year was played over three days (Oct 8, 14, and 15). Each team played each other team. Each team started the tournament with the B-A points earned during the 9-month season. Teams could win up to 10 additional points on Day 1 and Day 2, and up to 20 additional points on Day 3 plus overflow players could earn ¼ point for their team by scoring at least 32 Stableford points.

In today’s final round, 1st place Oakridge (entering with 18.8 points) played 4th place Marshwood (8.4 points) while 2nd place Palmetto (16.25 points) played 3rd place Deer Creek (16.15 points). The game was individual net-score match-play, one against one.

Mirroring the 2020 season, the Oakridge-Marshwood match was a runaway with Oakridge winning by a score of 14-9. Using Bellucci Math to convert these results into a 20-point match and adding in .5 points for 2 Oakridge players shooting 32 or better in the Stableford Overflow group resulted in Oakridge earning 12.7 points to Marshwood’s 7.8 points. But the Palmetto-Deer Creek match was a real nail-biter. Palmetto won the individual match-play match by a score of 11 to 10 but Deer Creek had 4 players who won ¼ points each in the Overflow Stableford play (a shout out to Michael Allen on scoring 46 Stableford ponts!).  So again, using Bellucci Math to convert these results into a 20-point match and accounting for the Overflow points resulted in Palmetto and Deer Creek tying at 10.5 points. Go figure the odds of that occurring!

So, continuing with Bellucci math, the final results show that Oakridge finished in first place with 31.5 points, Palmetto and Deer Creek finished almost in a dead heat for second place with Palmetto edging out Deer Creek by a score of 26.75 to 26.65, and Marshwood finished in a distant fourth place with 16.2 points. Congratulations go out to Paul Warhola and all the members of his Oakridge team. Y’all played well during the season and ran away with the end-of-season Tournament. WELL DONE!!!

As always, the 19th hole was most appreciated by all the players as lunch was served to supplement our usual weekly beverages. The main course was pulled pork sandwiches and ribs with sides of coleslaw, macaroni salad, and baked beans. A great big “thank you” to the Catering staff for a very enjoyable meal.

And it goes without saying that we are all most appreciative for the season-long support we get from Kelly Bouchillon and Eddie Ambrose. Without their continued sponsorship there would be no B-A Cup play throughout the year. We look forward to continuing with the B-A Cup into 2021 and beyond. And we are certainly looking forward to working with Kelly and Eddie on a new initiative to help recognize and reward Landings Club employees for all they do for us and the other members of the Club.

As always, a special thanks goes to the LMGA folks and the Deer Creek Golf staff who made this event a huge success while ensuring everyone stayed safe and followed all the Corona Virus guidelines. Thank you, President Frank Schepis, for overall organization; Tom Seipel and Steve Voss in supplying our beverages; Roger Belanger for serving as our bartender; and John Bellucci, Steve Skipper, and Mike Munro for continuing to keep us organized despite many last-minute changes.

Moving on from B-A Cup play, Thirsty Thursday play will resume on October 22nd at Marshwood. The game will be Front-Back-Overall where it will be four-man team Stableford. There will be winners for the Front Nine, Back Nine, and Overall 18-holes with no “double dipping). Individual Foursome tee times, and special scorecard and beverage handling procedures at the 19th hole will again be the order of the day.

And looking ahead, there will be no Thirsty Thursday play on October 29th due to the L9 Kid's Cafe Tournament. Thirsty Thursday play will resume on November 5th followed by the 2020 LMGA Championship tournament that will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, November 11-12.
