Play date: June 13 – The early summer heat didn’t faze the 52 LMGA members who took to the Oakridge fairways on Thursday for a game of one best net ball on odd-numbered holes, and two best net balls on even holes.
In Flight 1, the foursome of Jeff Nibley, John Landuyt, Jim Graham and John Higgins placed first with a combined score of 20-under. Right behind them were two teams at 19-under: Jack Welch, Scott Happ, David Ryan and Jay Carey took second place in a card-off; and Jim Yablecki, James Headley, Dave Martin and Rick Kershaw placed third.
In Flight 2, the first-place foursome was way out in front with a combined score of 23-under. That team included Bob Jackson, Doug Berchtold, Tom Brackett and Dale Johnson. Tied with 18-under were Jon Bokina, Tom Young, Bill Delaney and Phil Libby, who won second place in the draw; and Doug Albert, Ed O’Donnell, Jim Ulmer and Ken Ritz, who came in third.
In the Skins competition, altogether five net eagles were carded by Rick Kershaw (hole 14), Tom Young (10), Jim Graham (2), David Ryan (4) and Mark Peabody (5). Three net birdies went to Bob Jackson (hole 16), Scott Happ (17) and Pat Beringer (12). Of note: Kevin Brindle opted out of the Skins pool but managed to shoot an impressive four natural birdies in his round—one that would have earned a net eagle Skin and one worth a net birdie win. A reminder that “you can’t win it if you’re not in it”!
Tuesday Night Scrambles
Summer evening 9-hole Scrambles have moved to Tuesdays, and this past week 21 players turned out to compete in the second round of the season. One foursome—Jon and Alex Bokina and John Clark, playing with club pro Spencer Scheeler—swept both the team and Skins pools with a combined score of 9-under-par 27, which included seven net birdies and one net eagle.
The evening Scrambles are held weekly and are open to all. Players who wish to join in the fun should call the Marshwood golf shop between before 3:00 p.m. on the day of play.
