Second BA Cup Competition Extends Team Palmetto’s Run

Picking up where they left off last season, Team Palmetto is once more proving to be the team to beat in the 2024 BA Cup competition. In this season’s second monthly match-up, Palmetto again ran away from their competition, scoring an overall 10 ½ BA Cup points for the day against competitor Team Marshwood’s 7 ¼ points. Meanwhile, Team Deer Creek prevailed over Team Oakridge, 8 ¾ to 6 ½.

Despite the score imbalances, the day’s Singles Match Play competition was spirited. More than half of the 23 Palmetto/Marshwood matches were halved, and the same held true for nearly a third of the 19 Deer Creek/Oakridge match-ups.

Club pros Pete Vitiello, Lacy Skwarek, Kobe Freshwater and Erin Fuchik got in on the action as well. Vitiello, playing for Oakridge, bested Skwarek (for Deer Creek) outright, while Freshwater, a Palmetto stand-in, and Fuchik (for Marshwood) halved their match.

BA Cup points totals to date have Palmetto and Deer Creek leading with two (2) wins apiece, with Oakridge and Marshwood still shut out. The season is just getting started.

WORTH NOTING:

Scoring a hole-in-one is always an event to celebrate, but it’s not all that unusual here on The Landings given the number of rounds played each year on our six courses. Still, every once in a while an ace stands out from the rest. This past week four LMGA players witnessed such a once-in-a-lifetime golf event.

Ed O’Donnell and Rick Cricenti were playing a (non-LMGA) “Old Buddies” match against Frank Schepis and Greg Snyder when O’Donnell, hitting from the Club tees, aced his ball—unseen over the hill—into the cup on Marshwood’s par 3 fourth hole. High-fives and birdie juice all around!

But the celebration didn’t end there. When their round got to the 16th hole par 3, Ed’s playing partner Cricenti put his ball—again unseen because the green was in deep shadow—straight into the cup! TWO holes-in-one in the same round! Even Google can’t come up with stats on that!
