SUPER BOWL SCRAMBLE – JANUARY 31, 2015

SUPER BOWL SCRAMBLE – JANUARY 31, 2015

Another super successful Club tournament kicked-off the day before the official NFL holiday game.  Three golf courses were totally filled with 75 foursomes.  Once a male-only tournament, the overwhelming success of the Super’s Revenge confirmed that adding women’s and couples flights would establish new heights of participation.

In addition, the creativity of members and staff to include more excitement has really opened participation.  After Marshwood and Magnolia were quickly filled, Deer Creek was added to the field…and once again, another wait list formed.  Note:  sign up early next tournament!

FUZZY DICE played a featured role in the event!  To incorporate football into the golf tournament, each foursome was provided a pair of 3 1/2 inch fuzzy dice.  Then prior to teeing off on each hole, the dice were thrown into the air.  Roll a #2:  Penalty – the low ‘capper must sit out the hole.  Roll a #5:  Penalty in favor of the team.  Move forward to next tee.  Roll a #7:  Team gets an extra shot on each shot.  And…our golf Pros, dressed as referees, approached each foursome and rolled their dice…providing at times free shots!

The day brought football weather:  cool and breezy.  To further enhance the football atmosphere, rolling carts filled with Irish coffee and Bloody Marys drove around the courses to revive players.  Also, brats and chili dogs were served up as players wheeled on to the first or tenth holes.  Then, following the last hole-out, all teams scrambled to the Marshwood scoreboard, where a major party ensued.  Toasts, cheers, agony and “faulty dice” were all expressed.

Comments included:  Loved everything about it, fuzzy dice, referees' help, beverage carts and lunch boxes.  Great golf experience.  The "dice thing" added an extra measure of fun.  The pros dressed as referees and hitting shots – good addition.  (Wish they could do this every time I play.)  Well planned, well run, format was very different and a lot of fun.  Lunch was really good. Price was spot on for a really fun event.  Overall, a well-run tournament!

Photos by our superb photographers will be featured shortly on the Club and LMGA websites.
