Thirsty Thursday Results – August 8th

The game this week was a 4-man team Stableford competition. There were 2 Flights of almost 50 golfers, flighted by handicap.

Flight 1 went down to the last hole with the winning team of Bill Brunton, John Higgins, Bill Wolod, and Maurice Greene (more on him later) eking out a 1-point victory with a score of 153. One shot behind them was the 2nd place team of Frank Schepis, Kevin Brandon, Pete Quinn, and Tom Collins. No telling how many “should have made it” putts contributed to them coming up 1 stroke short. Sorry guys!

Flight 2 was quite the opposite with the team of Ken Ura, Hal Schmidt, Steve Skipper, and Mike Morris shooting a 137, winning by 5 points over the nearest competitor. Flight 2 also had the infamous distinction of having the clear DFL “winner”. The team of Scott Happ, Mark Rosenbaum, and Dan Malachuk shot a score of 114, 7 strokes behind the next closest team. You did remember to adjust your score for 3 players, didn’t you???

The Skins competition was where all the action was with one player winning 3 of the 4 Skins. And that player – Maurice Greene who was also on the Flight 1 winning team. Quite a day for Maurice as he shot a 77 with 5 birdies! Hope he is taking Mary out to dinner with his big payout. And don’t forget to post your score, Maurice, wouldn’t want the “Handicap Police” to track you down.

So, congratulations to all our winners. Next week is a Bouchillon–Ambrose Cup week at Deer Creek. Team Oakridge will try to bounce back from last month’s loss and add to their first-place lead of 6 points. Marshwood and Plantation are battling it out for 2nd place, each team with 3 points. And Deer Creek with 2 points will try to build on their last month’s win and escape from DFL. As always, there will be food and beverages at the 19th hole for a B-A match. Sign up now to beat the rush!
