Thirsty Thursday Results – July 11th

The game this week was 1 plus on odd and 2 on even where 4-man teams were required to take one or more net balls on odd-numbered holes and exactly two net balls on even-numbered holes. Course conditions at Deer Creek were good with fairly smooth fairways, thick rough, and greens still a little bumpy while they recover from the aeration process. The 14 ABCD teams were split into 2 Flights.

In Flight 1, the team of Ron Thomas, Charlie Bradford, Ken Carlough, and Dan Malachuk ran away from their flight (and the rest of the field, for that matter) with an outstanding score of -31! The team greatly benefited from an excellent day on the course for Charlie Bradford. Running second in flight 1 was the team of Rick Stark, Jim Golz, John Bellucci, and Dave Angell whose score of -25 would have easily taken first in flight 2. Their team was led by Rick Stark, who shot an outstanding gross score of 69 for the day. (That must explain his 1.2 handicap ......).

In Flight 2, the scores were not as good, but the competition was stiff. The team of Terry Irvin, Phil VanEss, Dick Higgins, and Mike Morris came in with a winning score of -22. Three teams followed them tied at -18. Second and third places were settled using a scorecard playoff.

Pace of play was good with all teams arriving at the scoreboard/beer cooler in 4 hours and a few minutes. There were 5 skins; all were net eagles.

So, congratulations to all our winners. Next Thursday, July 18th, will be the seventh B-A Cup match of the season at the always tough Palmetto golf course pitting the undefeated Oakridge team against the Plantation team and a match between the Marshwood and Deer Creek; all in an effort to improve their standings in the B-A Cup race.
