Over 75 folks showed up at Magnolia for Thirsty Thursday play using the Club and LMGA Corona Virus social distancing rules. Individual Foursome tee times, and special scorecard and beverage handling procedures at the 19th hole were again the order of the day. The game this week was Stableford with four-man AB and CD teams, flighted by handicap, competing against other four-man teams. As a reminder, “par” in Stableford is 144 points for a foursome.
In the AB-teams’ Flight 1, the threesome of Edgar Yu, Bob Hainly and Jim Golz ran away with first place, winning with a score of 147 which was 8 strokes better than the 2nd place finisher. But things were much different in the CD-teams’ Flight 2. The foursome of Bob Tucci, Joel Kantor, Kerry Fosse, and Dave Angell won by a single stroke with a score of 151. Disappointment reigned supreme for the foursome of John Bellucci, Tom Kunce, Rufus Freeman, and Bob Kaplan who finished 1 stroke off the pace with a 150, normally more than enough to win a Stableford flight. Sorry guys, it just wasn’t meant to be today!
We do have a few special shout-outs. We want to welcome Bill Jacques to his first Thirsty Thursday play. Welcome, Bill, we hope to see you out here in weeks to come. We also all want to welcome Mike Staman back to LMGA play; great to see you back on the course again, Mike! Given the Corona Virus restrictions, there was no Skins competition.
But we need to acknowledge 2 milestones today. On the positive side, we want to congratulate Rufus Freeman for shooting an 81 personal-best which almost carried the John Bellucci foursome to victory in Flight 2 (ALMOST). But on the negative side, we would be remiss if we didn’t “congratulate” our DFL team of the day. The foursome of Keith Krueger, Tony Lombard, Gary Wood, and Gef Fleming managed to finish in double digits, more than 50 shots behind the Flight 1 winner. Perhaps they only used 3 scores or only played 9 holes or …. ? This may be one for the record book!
And extra kudos again are in order for President Frank Schepis for overall organization of our weekly get-together and serving beverages in the proper Corona Virus way; Tom Seipel for handling the delivery of our ice-cold beverages with his little grand-daughter helper; Greg Snyder for his help with scorekeeping; and John Bellucci, Steve Skipper, and Mike Munro for continuing to keep us organized despite many last-minute changes. A SHOUT-OUT TO Y’ALL!
Thirsty Thursday play will continue next Thursday at Deer Creek where the game will be Stableford with four-man ABCD mixed-handicap teams, competing against other four-man teams. We will continue using the Club and LMGA Corona Virus social distancing rules. Individual Foursome tee times, and special scorecard and beverage handling procedures at the 19th hole will again be used. Sign up now so you don’t miss out on the action.
