After a week off from play so that our folks could participate in last Thursday’s L9 Kid’s Café Tournament, Thursday Thirsty play resumed today at Oakridge. Our game this week was A-B-C-D Mixed Team Stableford with 2 Flights of play.
Both Flights produced close matches. In Flight 1, the team of Bob Murphy, Mike Towson, Keith Krueger, and Tom Kunce won their flight by 2 strokes with a score of 131. And in Flight 2, the team of Joel Klein, Tom Richards, Herb Gallagher, and Martin Halper won their flight by 1 stroke with a score of 130. Swirling wind conditions and gnarly rough contributed to the low scores today with no team getting close to a par round of 144. And in fact, there was one team (who prefers to remain anonymous) that finished in double digits with a score of 97 (ouch!). And yes, they did play all 18 holes! As always, a special thanks goes to the LMGA folks who continue to make these events huge successes while ensuring everyone stays safe and follows all the Corona Virus guidelines. Thank you, President Frank Schepis, for overall organization and Don Snyder for beverage service; Tom Seipel and Steve Voss for handling our beverages; and Steve Skipper (standing in for John Bellucci this week) and Mike Munro for continuing to keep us organized despite many last-minute changes.
Looking ahead to next week, we will have the 2020 LMGA Championship tournament that will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, November 11 & 12. Day 1 of the tournament will be held at Deer Creek while Day 2 will be at Palmetto. The play both days will be Individual play using the Stableford format where there will be prizes for both daily and cumulative 2-day score totals. Individual Foursome tee times, and special scorecard and beverage handling procedures at the 19th hole will continue to be the order of the day.
And don’t forget, the annual LMGA Awards Dinner will be held at the Palmetto Variety Theatre Tent from 6-9pm on Thursday the 12th. It will feature the presentation of awards from the LMGA Championship, announcement of the Player of the Year, our annual meeting. and a featured speaker.
