Thirsty Thursday Results - March 26th

This was our first weekly play where we fully implemented the new Club and LMGA Corona Virus social distancing rules. Measures like individual foursome tee times rather than a shotgun start, and special scorecard and beverage handling procedures at the 19th hole were the order of the day. And from all the comments at the 19th hole (where the 6-ft rule was strictly adhered to), the day was a raging success.

Extra kudos are in order for President Frank Schepis for overall organization and being the beverage server; Tom Seipel for handling our beverages; and John Bellucci, Steve Skipper, and Mike Munro for continuing to keep us organized despite many last-minute changes. And none of this would have been possible without the help from Bob and the rest of the Marshwood club staff. WAY TO GO FOLKS!!!.

The game this week was 4-man ABCD teams playing “Red-White-Yellow” net best-ball where each team selected 1 ball on yellow (back) pins, 2 balls on white (middle) pins, and 3 balls on red (front) pins. There were 2 Flights with over 70 golfers participating.

Flight 1 was won handily where the team of Joel Klein, Larry Batanian, Jeff DeLuca, and Pete Kusek shot a score of -18 which was 3 strokes better than their nearest competitor. Flight 2 ended in a dead heat with 3 teams coming into the scoreboard tied for first with a score of -19. Using the Back Nine for the scorecard playoff, the team of Doug Duncan, Bob Schmidt, Joel Kantor, and Peter Hering edged out their 2 competitors with a score of -10 vs. -9 vs. -7 for the Back Nine. Bet a lot of folks are kicking themselves right now over 1 or 2 putts that they “could of/would of/should of” made!

Given the Corona Virus restrictions, there was no Skins competition. And no single team “stood out” for DFL as we had several teams finish in the -7 to -9 range.

The 2020 B-A season continues next week at Deer Creek with Marshwood competing against Plantation and Deer Creek against Oakridge. This is the rescheduled match from February which was cancelled due to bad weather. The game will be Individual net-score match play. As a reminder, Plantation is in the lead with 1.5 points, Deer Creek and Oakridge are tied for 2nd place with 1.0 point, and Marshwood is currently DFL with 0.5 points. Beverages will be served but food will not be due to Corona Virus restrictions. Sign up now so that you don’t get left out.
